MySpace Div Layouts Guide
What’s a D-I-V? We hear this a lot. The definition according to www.W3Schools.com is as follows:
The "div" tag defines a division/section in a document.
So essentially it’s an HTML term that you need not worry about! For web programmers it does signify the tags that are frequently used throughout Div MySpace layouts to create a very unique look. With a div overlay MySpace design, the 2-column template design of an unadulterated MySpace profile is hidden and overlaid with an original design on top of this space. It’s important to note that while this type of layout allows you to present a very customized and unique design, there are a few drawbacks. Some featured of the default MySpace template do not transfer over to the div overlay, and this type of design is a little different to update than a normal profile would be. Never fear though, your MySpace designers should provide detailed directions on how to update your page, and of course most will be available for continued maintenance on your page should you need it.
Here’s the breakdown of Div Overlays:
· Feature ONLY the content you want (no extra tables that MySpace templates put in there)
·Certain features do not transfer
· A little trickier to update, but for those with very basic HTML knowledge, it’s a breeze.
· Present a highly sophisticated design that stands apart on the vast MySpace network
· Example: http://www.myspace.com/davidsprom
So does that mean the Basic Customizations are inferior or less worthwhile? Not exactly. A basic customization is involves custom graphics placed within your MySpace default template. For example, a title graphic could be added (to be placed above your standard profile content), a contact table, an extended network banner, a background image, and then general page formatting to keep your tables, fonts and colors aligned and consistent. This technique allows you to update your profile the way you normally would, and your profile maintains a “classic MySpace” look and feel. This design is recommended for individuals who plan on making frequent updates to their page and adding lots of content on a regular basis.
Basic Customizations
Breakdown of the Basic Customization:
· Retains the “classic MySpace” look and feel, while offering customized design elements
· All functions of a standard MySpace account
· Update your page exactly the way you normally would (just don’t touch the code!)
· Example: http://www.myspace.com/dellavalle
So, as you can see one design is not necessarily better than another. It really depends on what you are looking for in a design. Something that is highly sophisticated that pushes the envelope of what a MySpace page can do and look like? Or a page that adheres to the typical MySpace layout, with some design punch that keeps them coming back for more.
